Why don't I have sound after upgrading to Windows 98 Second Edition?

I installed Windows 98 2nd edition and lost the audio. How do I go back to win/95 and forget 98? I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. I tried installing new drivers etc. everything says all devices are working...Not so. CD plays music fine.. Any help??

While we can understand your frustration, maybe we can suggest a few other things to try to get your sound back since your upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition

When you upgrade your computer to Windows 98 Second Edition, your USB speakers may no longer function correctly

This issue can occur if another sound card was detected as the preferred audio playback device during the installation

To resolve this issue, select the USB audio device as the preferred playback device in Windows To do this, follow these steps:

In Control Panel, double-click Multimedia.

On the Audio tab, click your USB audio device in the Preferred Device box under Playback.

Click OK, and then close Control Panel.

Or go to Control Panel/Multimedia/ and check to be sure that the volume level hasn't been reset to very low during the upgrade.

This is assuming as you have stated, that the drivers are correctly installed, there are no known resource conflicts and that the sound card is operational and not defective Good Luck!
