What is the Heartbleed bug and how does it affect me?

The Heartbleed bug is a software bug in one of the fundamental tools called OpenSSL used by more than two thirds of the Internet to allow secure transactions.

Heartbleed Bug

The bug was discovered by researchers that quietly warned OpenSSL of the problem so it could be fixed before it became public knowledge. By now, most major websites should have the fix in place, but you can check any website at this site: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/

Once you've confirmed that the site is safe, change your passcode as a precaution as the bug has existed for almost two years.

If you want real-time warnings when you visit a website that is still not patched, install a free add-on for the Chrome browser called Chromebleed: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebleed/eeoekjnjgppnaegdjbcafdggilajhpic
