Know Where To Park
Metered street parking is rough, especially when you run out of time.
It’s time for another Data Doctors Tech Tip.
Between alternate side parking, tow zones, loading zones and metered spaces, there are any number of ways a driver might misread -- or even ignore -- the rules delegated by a parking sign and end up with a ticket.
An app called Park.it is trying to eliminate hat risk by showing users where legal spaces are in the area they’re driving and sending alerts to their smartphones if a space is no longer safe to park in.
Park.it takes into account all kinds of potential violations, from street cleaning times and restrictions for residential zones to incline parking rules and meters.
The app launched where all the cool tech starts, in San Francisco... but it’s now rolling out in New York and Washington, D.C. before it hits the rest of the country.
In case you were wondering how big the parking ticket industry is... In 2011, Washington D.C. set a city record by collecting $92.6 million in parking ticket revenue.
In New York City... they write 27,000 tickets a day.
Soon you'll be able to say stick it, to the ticket!
