I'm having a problem with turning off my computer. Increasingly, when I click "start" then "turn off computer" my computer just sits there and will not turn off. I've tried "restart" and "standby" and still nothing. I have to push and hold down the power button to turn it off. Upon the next startup it goes thru a scandisk session, but does not report that it had to repair files. This happens about every third time I turn off my computer. I use Ontrack's Internet cleanup, scheduled to run each time the system starts up, but if I attempt to run it manually, it insists I have an open browser. I close IE, make sure Outlook Express is closed and it still says I have an open browser. When I push control-alt-delete to end any open browser, nothing is listed as being open. I have run scandisk, followed by defrag to see if that helps, but by the third or fourth time trying to turn off the computer, the whole cycle starts over again.

Your problem lies in the power options of your computer

Go to start and then run

When in the run dialog box type the word control and press enter (this will take you to the control panel)

When in the control panel scroll down and double click the power options icon

When in the power options window click on the advanced tab

When in the advanced tab dialog box pops up click on the option that states (when the power button is pressed) select an option that suits your computing needs.

Click ok, restart your computer and everything should be fine
