Will Windows 2000 work with HP 5100C scanjet?

Will the Windows 2000 programs work with an old model scanner like the HP 5100C? What problems could arise?

Hi: The Hewlett-Packard web site has a wealth of information on all of its products (www.hp.com) The bad news is that the HP 5100C is not supported by Windows 2000 The good news is that if you are upgrading to Windows 2000 from Windows 9x, you can download a patch to make 2000 work with the 5100C The issue in getting them to work together is acquiring a new set of parallel drivers for the scanner and the re-enabling of the scanner buttons.

Go to the HP website and find the software download page Run the patch titled "Windows 2000 Pro Update for HP Scanjet Scanners 5100C series and 5200C series" located in the "Microsoft (R) Windows 2000" box Download the patch, then upgrade the OS to Windows 2000 Professional Make sure the scanner is connected and turned on before the upgrade Run the downloaded patch Reboot the computer After reboot, a text file will display describing how to enable interrupts on the parallel port (to avoid conflicts with other parallel connected devices.) Follow the instructions The upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional will render the buttons on the scanner non-functional Installation of Client for Microsoft Networks will re-enable the scanner buttons Instructions for installing Client for Microsoft Networks is included on the HP website.
