When I open the Run file there is sfc which tells me that a file may be corrupted...File:regedit.exe Location c:\windows.

I know very little about this but may be able to follow directions. My Norton virus program was also killed and I have not been able to re-load that....Help

I am not sure what you mean by "sfc" but based on what I can gather from your question it sounds like you have registry corruption This is the most serious of all system problems and one that will certainly require someone that has a good working knowledge of the Windows operating system to help you If will be nearly impossible to give you any good advice without seeing the system You could be experiencing hardware problems, a boot sector virus or just plain Windows registry corruption Since you are running Windows 98, get with someone that knows how to use the built in ScanReg utility that may allow you to restore a previous registry.
